'A lot left to be desired': Private health insurers get COVID-19 report card

22 July 2020 - Private health insurers are under pressure to give back half a billion dollars saved on unused extras policies during the COVID-19 lockdown, as consumer group Choice issues scathing report cards naming the worst-performing funds during the pandemic.

Medibank and Bupa, the two largest funds with more than 7 million members combined, were given the lowest score, 1 out of 5, for refusing to roll over unused extras and freeze premiums until July 2021 or offer blanket discounts, and because their hardship policies were not "easy to find online".
