ACCC 'more aggressive' towards private health insurers

31 May 2017 - The corporate watchdog has made an example of NIB as part of a wider review of the private health insurance sector, but analysts say that the legal action will not have a material impact on the insurer.

On Tuesday the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission filed a suit in the Federal Court alleging the country's fourth largest health fund decided not to inform customers it had removed certain eye procedures from a program offering protection from out-of-pocket costs.

In a statement NIB said it would "strenuously defend the claims" and said it believed it had acted "lawfully and ethically".
