20 June 2026 - Australia needs a difficult conversation about the world’s best medicines, what they cost and who should pay. 

Amid tight budgets and soaring debt, the question of how the PBS can provide affordable access to new and better treatments can no longer be sidestepped. If it is, patients, including the young, will pay the price – sometimes with earlier deaths or poorer quality of life.
