An unconventional health care speech: Trump wishes pharma stocks would drop, and implies drug industry is behind impeachment

3 October 2019 - President Trump is back in attack mode — and drug companies are again a clear target.

In a rowdy, hourlong speech at a sprawling Florida retirement home, Trump renewed his pointed criticisms of the pharmaceutical industry, even implying they may have been behind the recent push to open a formal impeachment investigation.

“We’re lowering the cost of prescription drugs, taking on the pharmaceutical companies. And you think that’s easy? It’s not easy. … They come at you from all different sides. I wouldn’t be surprised if the hoax didn’t come a little bit from some of the people that we are taking on,” he said, referring to the investigation as a “hoax.” He did not cite any evidence for that claim.
