5 February 2018 - The University of York is deeply saddened to announce that Alan Maynard, Emeritus Professor of Health Economics and Founding Director of the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York, has passed away.

Professor Maynard OBE was first appointed to the University as a lecturer in 1971 and over the course of his career he made a tremendous contribution to the field of Health Economics and the life of the University as a whole. 

He was a crucial voice in the development of UK and international health policy and a talented and prolific academic. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the University and remembered for his kindness, mentorship, wit and wisdom.
