16 December 2016 - Obstetrician charges of up to $10,000 and midwife led care in public hospitals are driving new mums to shun private hospitals and have their babies in public hospitals instead.
Health funds are worried about the trend fearing if consumers don’t join a health fund when they have a baby they may be less likely to ever take out health cover.
And young doctors are struggling to build a private practice as a result of the trend.
