Aussie pharmaceuticals whacked by Donald Trump

12 January 2017 - Australian health stocks took an early hit on the local market following US president elect Donald Trump’s comments that drug companies are “getting away with murder”.

Mr Trump made the comments during a press conference in New York, which saw the nine biggest pharmaceutical companies on the S&P 500 lose around $US24.6 billion in market value in 20 minutes.

Australian companies with exposure to the US took a hit on the local bourse today, following the lead of their US counterparts.

Mr Trump said pharmaceutical companies were “getting away with murder” in what they charged the government for medicines and he promised that would change.
