Australia could be world leader with its digital medical data banks

26 August 2019 - Australia is behind global peers in adopting technology in healthcare but it has an opportunity to lead the world with its medical “data bank”, which is growing through the use of digital health records.

Shehaan Fernando, regional director of connected care informatics at Philips Australia, said the latest Future Health Index report showed the importance of data access in empowering patie­nts to take control of their health.

Mr Fernando said Australia, through its introduction of the digital health record, was one of the first countries in the world to put a system in place that could effectively use medical data for improved outcomes.
