Biden’s choice and FDA’s loosening standards of evidence

23 March 2021 - The US Food and Drug Administration is widely considered the world’s premier regulator of drugs and devices, but critics say three decades of deregulation have resulted in increasingly lax oversight and lower standards of evidence.

Three months into his presidency, Joe Biden is poised to appoint a new commissioner for the Food and Drug Administration. His choice will affect both the direction of the agency and the types of medicines and devices approved during and after the pandemic.
