Boots faces probe over NHS drug prices

The government has asked the Competition and Markets Authority to consider investigating allegations that Boots, the high street pharmacy chain, charged the NHS £3,220 for pain-relieving mouthwash that can cost £93.

According to an investigation by The Times, Boots was able to take advantage of a loophole that allows suppliers to set their own prices for some unlicensed medicines, known as specials.
