CHMP opined on fewer new medicines in 2019

EMA

18 December 2019 - The CHMP issued 66 positive opinions for 'new medicines' in 2019.

As noted in yesterday's issue of MAESTrO Daily, this tally includes (positive) opinions for new biosimilar medicines and new generic medicines; hardly new medicines in the real world.  The real world figure is 35.

According to the EMA, the CHMP issued 85 positive opinions for 'new medicines' in 2018. The tally for 2019 is therefore well down on the previous year. Could it be due to the EMA's move from London to Amsterdam?

The real world tally for 2019 of 35 is well down on the tally for 2018 (50).
