Costs keep women from taking drugs to prevent cancer’s return

1 November 2016 - Poverty and higher out-of-pocket drug costs may be the main reason that some women don’t stick with hormone therapy designed to prevent breast cancer from coming back, a recent U.S. study suggests.

Researchers analysed data on about 8,700 women who had breast cancer and at least one prescription for pills to curb production of the hormone oestrogen - which can fuel tumour growth - or pills to stop oestrogen from attaching to cancer cells.
