CSL in deal with commonwealth to produce Oxford University and University of Queensland COVID-19 vaccines

7 September 2020 - Australia’s biggest health company CSL will manufacture two separate COVID-19 vaccines - including the world’s leading candidate being developed at Oxford University with AstraZeneca - in Australia, with the first doses expected by early 2021 if clinical trials prove successful.

The health giant has signed a “heads of agreement” with the federal government to manufacture 30 million doses of the Oxford University and AstraZeneca vaccine, which is currently the world’s most advanced undergoing phase three trials.

The agreement also included a funding deed with the commonwealth so CSL can prepare its advanced manufacturing factory at Broadmeadows in Melbourne’s north to produce the vaccine, with doses expected to roll off of the production line in early 2021.
