Days before a deadline, Trump team cancels ads for Obama health plan

26 January 2017 - The Trump administration is pulling back advertisements that encourage people to sign up for health insurance under former President Barack Obama’s health care law.

The ads were to have run in the next few days of the annual open enrolment period, which ends on Tuesday. In the last few years, large numbers of consumers signed up just before the deadline.

Under the Affordable Care Act, people who go without insurance are subject to tax penalties. But President Trump and Republicans in Congress are determined to repeal the law, including provisions that require most Americans to have insurance.
