25 April 2026 - The weight loss drug has finally been recommended for public funding for those with diabetes, but manufacturers are walking away amid a dramatic flashpoint in the medicine wars.

Hundreds of thousands of Australians with type 2 diabetes will be unable to gain publicly funded access to the key drug Mounjaro after an extraordinary showdown between one of the world’s biggest pharmaceutical companies and Australia’s medicines advisory body.
