Drug companies call out PHARMAC for lack of transparency and timeliness

3 April 2019 - Two of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies say New Zealand is lagging behind other countries when it comes to funding new drugs.

The assessment comes as leaders from PHARMAC face growing calls for an inquiry into how the organisation operates and how it might do things better.

Questions about the drug-buying agency's processes were first raised during a march on Parliament last year which saw two petitions, demanding funding for advanced breast cancer medications, presented to MPs.
