New Zealand's drug-funding agency Pharmac should be publishing its waiting list for medicines, says research funded by drug companies.
But that's not going to happen because it would erode its negotiating position, Pharmac says.
Pharmac has an expert clinical committee which advises the board on which drugs would be best for the government body to fund.
A research paper published in the New Zealand Medical Journal says, in the interests of transparency, Pharmac should regularly publish its drugs waiting list, their priority status and the length of time they have been waiting.
The research was funded by Medicines New Zealand, which represents drug companies.
