28 August 2019 - In an unusual move, the Netherlands health minister wrote an open letter to the pharmaceutical industry in which he threatened to publicly rebuke an unidentified drug maker if the company is unable to explain the reasons for the price of a particular medicine.
In his letter, which was published in De Volkskrant daily newspaper, Minister of Medical Care Bruno Bruins wrote that “healthcare costs are not affordable for more and more Dutch people” and that “expensive medicines are taking up an increasing share of the healthcare budget.”
