Faster UK drug approvals by relying on other countries

In his March budget, the UK Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, announced that from 2024 the MHRA will adopt a new regulatory model allowing for “near automatic sign-off for medicines and technologies already approved by trusted regulators in other parts of the world.” Rather than making use of “Brexit freedoms” as Hunt claimed, the initiative may restrict the MHRA’s ability to develop its own standards and regulations while increasing its reliance on decisions made by the US FDA or the EMA.
