Finding RCTs of new drugs: searches in trial registries require specific adaptations

IQWiG

5 January 2018 - In their article in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, Marco Knelangen, Elke Hausner, Sibylle Sturtz, and Siw Waffenschmidt (all from IQWiG), as well as Maria-Inti Metzendorf (from the Cochrane Group at the Institute of General Medicine, University Hospital Düsseldorf), report on the availability of randomised controlled trials of newly approved drugs in trial registries.

They also describe which specific search strategies yield reliable search results in the registries ClinicalTrials.gov, EU Clinical Trials Register, and the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform.

The results presented are based on a German-language working paper published by IQWiG in 2016 on searches in trial registries for studies of newly approved drugs.
