Government hopes to hook voters with cheaper drugs

29 March 2022 - Patients will get access to cheaper or free medicines sooner under plans to reduce the PBS safety net thresholds, in a measure the government is counting as part of its cost of living package.

In another measure to reduce the burden on patients, treatments for breast cancer, dermatitis and cystic fibrosis are among $2.4 billion in medicines to be added to the PBS over five years, as the government tries to negate Labor’s traditional edge on health.
