Health insurance faces handbrake under Labor: UBS

30 May 2022 - A rebound in the number of Australians taking out private health insurance may slow under Labor’s return to government, with health care reform tipped to favour the public health sector, UBS says.

It comes as Australia’s private health insurance sector recorded a record net profit of $2 billion in the year to March 31, according to the data from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, as more of the young and healthy took out policies to dodge public waiting lists.
