Health insurers offer parents a rebate for Bexsero meningococcal B vaccine which is not on the PBS

Courier Mail

8 January 2017 - Parents wanting to vaccinate their children against meningococcal B should check if they are eligible for a private health insurance rebate, in the hope they will soon be able to access the out-of-stock vaccine.

Insurance comparison website Finder.com.au has identified at least 10 private health insurers that provide a rebate for the Bexsero vaccine for members with pharmaceutical extras cover.

The Courier-Mail revealed all four children recovering from the meningococcal disease at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital had strain B of the bacteria, which is vaccine-preventable.

The Bexsero vaccine is expected to be back in stock in Australia as soon as the end of this month, after a shortage that started in October.
