Health Minister Greg Hunt promises to speed up drug subsidy approvals

Sydney Morning Herald

15 October 2019 - Health Minister Greg Hunt has promised to slash red tape from the process of approving new drugs to be subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme after the head of the powerful medicines lobby complained Australians were waiting too long for life-saving medicines.

Mr Hunt told Medicines Australia's annual conference in Canberra on Tuesday that the Morrison government would overhaul the system to deliver an "expedited" process for new drug listing applications in 2020.

The announcement came after The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age reported on Medicines Australia's push for faster approvals.
