Health organisations join calls for a review into government drug buying agency

12 December 2018 - Pressure is mounting on the government to announce a review into its drug buying agency with several health advocacy groups throwing their weight behind the grassroots campaign.

The Health Select Committee last week agreed to open a briefing on PHARMAC funding and patient access to drugs after being asked to by breast cancer fighters Wiki Mulholland and Terre Nicholson during a hearing into funding two medicines for advanced breast cancer.

The pair, along with Wiki's husband Malcolm Mulholland, specifically wanted the organisation's "long-standing systemic issues" investigated with an emphasis on why its budget was lower than comparable countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom.
