Hi-tech hospital costs soar as almost half of stays top $10,000

4 July 2017 - Australian health funds paid more than $6.4 billion last year on claims that had a benefit payment of more than $10,000.

The latest survey of high claims by Private Healthcare Australia showed the total for 2016 was a 6.7% jump on 2015.

Nearly half of all payments for hospital treatment by Australian health funds, 45%, are now for claims where the insurer pays more than $10,000 for its customer’s health care.
