14 August 2023 - The world’s best tuberculosis drug was too expensive for sufferers—until advocates and a YouTube star changed almost everything.

Millions of people are about to gain access to a lifesaving medicine for drug-resistant tuberculosis. A few weeks ago, after years of both quiet and noisy pressure, pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson opened the door to inexpensive generic versions of its patented tuberculosis drug bedaquiline in several low and middle income countries. The new generic medications could cost just $8 per month.
