The Cancer Drugs Alliance is disappointed the Federal Government has failed to address the needs of Australians fighting the toughest battle of their lives, their battle with cancer, in its 2014-15 Budget announced tonight.
While the CDA recognises the importance of the significant $20 billion investment into the world’s largest medical research endowment fund, it is important to prioritise the here and now. Lives are being lost unnecessarily due to the lack of equitable access to cancer medicines available now overseas but not yet subsidised here in Australia.
“Time is of the essence for Australians living with cancer – many don’t have time to wait until next year’s Budget to receive access to the latest innovative medicines - action is needed now,” states Professor John Zalcberg, co-Chair of the Cancer Drugs Alliance.
