How much is preventing a heart attack worth?

20 January 2019 - A newly developed family of drugs could cut cholesterol by up to 75% and prevent thousands of strokes, heart attacks and deaths.

But there’s a catch: the drugs cost about $8,000 per patient per year.

Unless the manufacturer cuts prices, subsidising it for the hundreds of thousands of Australians with high cholesterol could blow out the health budget.
