Hunt denies helping Liberal donor push for regulator's review

Sydney Morning Herald

23 January 2020 - Health Minister Greg Hunt has denied accusations he interfered in a regulator's decision on whether to review a self-testing flu kit made by a Liberal donor's company.

Emails obtained under freedom of information show Mr Hunt's office was "very keen" for the Therapeutic Goods Administration to review the use of self-diagnosing devices, including for the flu.

It followed an enquiry about Ellume, and its flu-test device, to Mr Hunt's office. Ellume's chair is multi-millionaire entrepreneur Paul Darrouzet, who donated $100,000 to the federal Liberal party in 2017 and has also donated to the Queensland Liberal National Party.
