'Incredibly upsetting': breast cancer patients dealing with shortage of common drug treatment

12 November 2019 - When Tricia Smith tried to fill her prescription for tamoxifen two weeks ago, she was shocked by what she heard: The drug commonly prescribed for breast cancer patients is in short supply in Ontario.

Smith, who lives in Kanata, was told by the pharmacy she normally uses that the drug was on back order and not available: They couldn’t fill her prescription. She tried another pharmacy only to be told that they had just eight tablets left (she usually gets 100 at a time). Finally, she found a local drug store that was able to fill her entire prescription.

She was lucky.
