The introduction of the first disease management programmes was the starting point for providing a legal basis for evidence-based medicine in Germany. Since 2004, the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) – fulfilling its legal mandate – has been investigating the medical evidence on the benefit of examination and treatment methods for patients.
Today, evidence-based medicine has gained noticeable importance; the term is widely used and broadly discussed. However, its actual impact on health care still remains unclear in many areas. Evidence-based health care still has great potential for development, meaning it can and must be improved. In its next Autumn Symposium, IQWiG will therefore look into the focus and the challenges of evidence-based health care in the next ten years.
On the occasion of IQWiG’s 10th anniversary, the Autumn Symposium will therefore take a look into the future: On 28 November, national and international experts from research and the health care system will present their perspective on the question of the future focus of evidence-based health care. The speakers are David Haslam, Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and Jean-Luc Harousseau, Chair of the French Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS), as well as Reinhard Busse from the Technical University (TU) Berlin and Gabriele Meyer from the University of Halle-Wittenberg.
