Korea launches sweeping drug pricing reform to curb generic dominance

29 November 2025 - The Government will launch a large scale overhaul of the drug pricing system starting in the second half of 2026, lowering the pricing ratio for generic drugs from the current 53.55% of the original drug price to the low 40% range.

The move aims to bring generic drug prices to the levels seen in countries like Japan and France, signaling a shift toward reforming Korea’s generic centric market structure and strengthening incentives for new drug development.
