Let pharmacists take the load off GPs

28 August 2019 - Recent proposals to allow pharmacists to take on a greater role to improve access to low risk healthcare and reduce out-of-pocket costs, as is done in the UK and Canada, have been met with responses from peak medical groups that are completely overblown.

This should not be a "turf war" between health professionals, it should be a discussion about improving access to, and affordability of, low-risk healthcare for Australians.

To be clear, pharmacists are not GPs and do not want to be GPs. Pharmacists recognise the limits of their scope of practice and will always refer patients to their GPs where appropriate.
