‘Let private health funds cover all GP bills’

29 October 2019 - Private health insurers are ­pushing for reform of the healthcare system to allow them to pay the bills of patients treated outside the hospital system, including ­visits to general practitioners and specialists, and at-home chemotherapy treatment.

The move comes as a report warns hospitals are burdened to the point of being unsustainable, and preventative and primary healthcare must shift to the home and the community.

The KPMG report finds that if more healthcare were provided outside hospitals, there would be fewer complications, lower mortality, higher patient satisfaction and massive cost savings to governments.
