23 April 2018 - A 31-year-old Sydney man with terminal cancer is being forced to pay thousands of dollars for a “miracle” drug which could extend his life.
Joe Tran has already spent over $80,000 on the drug, Keytruda, which he has been told by doctors is having an impact on his stage-four colorectal cancer.
As well as fundraising, he has sold his computer and the family has sold their cars to help pay his ongoing medical bills at Sydney’s Liverpool Hospital.
While the drug is on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for melanoma and has just been added for Hodgkin lymphoma, sufferers of other types of cancer have to pay.
