Meningococcal disease: mother wants vaccine to be free for all

30 July 2019 - A mother whose baby could have died from meningococcal W is disappointed the vaccine to stop the potentially deadly disease is not funded for all children.

Charissa Minty, from Auckland's Waitakere, says she could have lost 1-year-old Alexis in early June if not for her mother's intuition.

"I would not want anyone to go though what we went through."

Minty said parents should not have to sacrifice other essentials to pay for the vaccine, which can cost hundreds of dollars.
