19 October 2022 - Mackenzie’s Mission is a research study providing reproductive genetic carrier screening to up to 10,000 couples across Australia. The screening, championed by former Minister of Health Greg Hunt, gives prospective parents information about their likelihood of having a child with a severe genetic condition.

After considering the strength of the available evidence in relation to comparative safety, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and total cost, the MSAC did not support public funding of expanded reproductive carrier testing for joint carrier status of genes associated with autosomal recessive and X-linked recessive conditions.
