MSAC recommends targeted carrier testing of certain ethic people for severe monogenic conditions
20 October 2022 - An 'eventful' week for Jewish people in Australia.
After considering the strength of the available evidence in relation to comparative safety, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and total cost, the MSAC has supported the creation of a new MBS item for reproductive carrier testing of individuals who are of reproductive age and who identify as being of Ashkenazi Jewish descent to detect genetic variants known to cause nine severely disabling and/or life-threatening monogenic conditions that are highly prevalent in this community.
