New drug added to PBS can double life expectancy for breast cancer

5 January 2020 - A new drug that can slow the progression of advanced breast cancer has been added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. 

The drug, Verzenio, costs up to $55,000 a year but will now be affordable for women who have metastasised breast cancer.

Sydney oncologist Dr Fran Boyle said the drug could double the life expectancy for those with metastatic cancer.
