New melanoma guidelines recommend $150,000 a year treatment that’s not subsidised

25 May 2018 - Sweeping changes to medical guidelines for melanoma could halve the rate at which the cancer recurs but several treatments costing up to $210,000-a-year is not subsidised.

The first new treatment guidelines in 10 years will be released today and sees patients spared disabling lymph node surgery.

But the catch is the pharmaceutical companies that make the high-cost drugs have not yet even applied for subsidies for these treatments although they say they are working on it.
