Not playing NICE: UK drugs gatekeeper in US crosshairs

10 June 2019 - The U.S. wants Britain to buy more of its drugs after Brexit — but it also wants Britain to pay more.

During Donald Trump’s visit to London this week, he urged the U.K. to get moving with its plans to quit the European Union so it can forge a “phenomenal” trade deal with the U.S.

As part of that deal, the U.S. could seek to dismantle one of the U.K.’s most prized health system components — the value assessments undertaken on new medicines to keep costs down, and limit the amount paid out to drug makers.
