Patient group calls faster rare disease drug reimbursement process a 'meaningful start'

8 June 2026 - Patient advocacy groups have welcomed the Government's plan to shorten the reimbursement listing period for rare disease treatments, describing it as “a meaningful start,” while calling for further improvements to expand eligibility and ensure continuity of care.

In a statement released on Monday, the Korea Alliance of Patient Organizations said that the pilot program for expedited reimbursement listing and post-evaluation of rare disease therapies represents “an important policy initiative aimed at improving treatment access for patients with rare diseases.”
