PBAC dismisses Pharmacy Guild concerns on 60 day dispensing

12 May 2023 - The chair of the PBAC has dismissed concerns that 60 day dispensing will cause medicine shortages, concluding such problems are determined by factors unrelated to the change in maximum dispensing.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler asked the PBAC to consider whether the proposed Maximum Dispensed Quantity change would materially exacerbate medicine supply shortages and impact upon the ability to obtain medicines following a campaign by the Pharmacy Guild to protest against the policy, which will hit the bottom line of thousands of pharmacies across the country.
