People with multiple sclerosis unable to access 'life-changing' treatment in NZ

5 May 2022 - New Zealanders with multiple sclerosis say their only hope of slowing the disease is not available in New Zealand and costs thousands of dollars.

In 2021, Anne Besley, a former operating theatre nurse with multiple sclerosis, and her mum Joan Perry started a petition to the government to make stem cell treatment available in Aotearoa for people with multiple sclerosis.

Besley, from Auckland’s Green Bay, had haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in India at the beginning of 2020. She said it “changed her life”.
