PM says government will listen to all suggestions to arrest slide in private health insurance

4 October 2019 - Scott Morrison says the government was prepared to listen to all suggestions to arrest the slide in private health insurance following a push by health funds for tax exemptions to allow employers to buy health insurance for their workers.

“We’re very keen to ensure that we arrest, particularly amongst younger people, the take-up of private health insurance having fallen in recent times,’’ the Prime Minister said on Friday. “I wouldn’t say those falls are dramatic but they have receded and that is a concern.

“We want to make sure our hybrid private-public system remains vibrant and so we’ll always listen to suggestions but you’ve got to make those decisions consistent with your budget rules and your priorities.’’
