Post-Brexit destination of EU medicines regulator thrown into doubt as Italy launches appeal

1 February 2018 - The final destination of the EMA after Brexit was on Wednesday thrown back into question after Italy launched a legal bid to stop the lucrative EU regulator heading to Amsterdam.

Milan lost out to Amsterdam in the race to become the new home of the EMA, after a selection process compared to the Eurovision song contest ended with the drawing of lots.

Sandro Gozi, Italy’s Europe minister, compared the loss of the EMA to his country’s recent failure to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 58 years.
