PrEP: Advocates call for greater affordability and access to new preventative HIV method

1 December 2016 - A new AIDS prevention method known as PrEP is the most effective tool yet to reduce infection rates in Australia, experts say.

The key drug involved is being trialled in several states, but advocates are lobbying for it to be more accessible and affordable.

PrEP's uptake comes amid increases in other STIs but some doctors say it cannot be directly linked to the drug.

Phillip Joffe was one of the first in Australia who got a script for the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis drug from Melbourne's largest gay clinic in 2014.
