Price controls imposed by shortsighted politicians keep new life-saving drugs out

5 March 2020 - Politicians need to step outside the Ottawa bubble and understand how their policies impact the lives of everyday Canadians with unmet health needs.

Chantelle Lindsay died on 19 February, aged 23, from the ravages of cystic fibrosis without having had the benefit of a new drug that is available in the United States but not yet in Canada. 

In a CBC report of her death, a Health Canada spokesperson was reported as saying the planned introduction of more stringent price controls on new drugs was not to blame because “evidence shows that lower prices do not limit access to new medicines.”
