Private Healthcare Australia blames steep health care premiums on the high fixed prices of medical devices

22 August 2016 - Australia's private health insurance industry association has blamed rising health care premiums on the high cost of devices such as pacemakers and replacement hips and knees.

The industry's peak representative body has produced data showing that a knee replacement costs three times more in Australia than it does in Canada.

The Australian Government announced a review of the pricing of devices earlier this year. Private Healthcare Australia has called on the Government to reform the pricing system.
